Kara David gives viewers a rare, in-depth look into the world of shoplifters where people steal out of desperation and hunger.

Allan has been in Manila City Jail for over a month now for having stolen a single can of luncheon meat. He says other inmates laugh at his situation. His family cannot afford to bail him out even though shoplifting is a bailable crime.

And then there are those who steal for a living. Joan is a big-time shoplifter. She has managed to hide a laptop, a toaster oven and other household appliances inside her skirt.

She learned the tricks of the trade from her own mother. Now her sister Joyce serves as her lookout, alerting her to the arrival of security guards and salesgirls.

Joan has been caught several times in the past, but has always been bailed out by so-called "financers." She is a member of a crime syndicate and contributes a percentage of her earnings to this group.

Meet the criminals who manage to evade conviction and the one-time shoplifters who languish in jail in Kara David's documentary airing Monday late night over GMA 7’s i-Witness.

Ngayong Lunes, mapapanood ang isang matapang na dokumentaryo ukol sa dalawang klase ng tao sa mundo ng shoplifting - ang mga organisadong kriminal na labas-masok sa kulungan at ang mga baguhang nananatili sa loob.

Ipakikilala ni Kara David si Mang Allan, buwan nang nakakulong sa Manila City Jail sa salang pagnanakaw ng isa lamang delata ng luncheon meat. Pinagtatawanan daw siya ng mga kasamahan sa loob dahil sa babaw ng kanyang kaso.

Masuwerte naman daw si Joan, isang big-time shoplifter. Miyembro siya ng sindikato at nakapagnakaw na ng libu-libong halaga ng paninda. Pagala-gala lang daw siya sa Maynila dahil panay siyang napipiyansahan ng kanyang financier.

"Epda" o pag-ipit sa loob ng palda ang estilo ni Joan sa pagnanakaw. Nagawa na raw niya ito sa laptop, malaking lata ng gatas, oven toaster at iba pang mga appliances.

Nanay ni Joan ang nagturo sa kanilang magkapatid ng mga estilo sa pagshoshoplift. Retired na raw si nanay pero ang kapatid namang si Joyce ang tumutulong sa ate nya. Si Joyce ang “lookout" sa mga security guards at tindera ng mga ninakaw na items.

Kaya pagkatapos magshoplift, diretso na siya sa mga kapitbahay at barangay nila para ilako ito sa kalahating halaga.

Ang mga organisadong shoplifter na malayang gumagala sa Maynila at mga baguhang nabuburo sa loob ng kulungan ang laman ng dokumentaryo ni Kara David ngayong Lunes ng hatinggabi sa i-Witness.
